Phones against Corruption initiative was awarded two weeks ago as the second best innovative initiative in the Asia Pacific region. This award, the third that this project has received so far, was during the Regional Management Meeting of UNDPs Regional Bureau for Asia-Pacific (RBAP) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 18 to 20 October 2015.
The event was with the participation of the UNDPs Administrator Mrs. Helen Clark, and the Assistant Administrator and Director, Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific Mr. Haoliang Xu, and more that 24 head of UNDP head of country offices and agencies, including senior officials from the Governrnent of Malaysia. The award recognizes all the efforts developed by the Phones Against Corruption initiative team, (UNDP and DOF staff) making sure that the SMS system works and attends its purpose on exposing and combating corruption in PNG.
The award was received by the UNDP Resident Representative in PNG Mr. Roy Trivedy on behalf of the team. The initiative is in its scaling up phase. It has been successfully tested within the Department of Finance and coordination are underway in order to roll it out, before the end of this year, to other government agencies, while waiting the establishment of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) by the National Parliament
